Plastic pilonidal sinus / Cyst with flap (Karydaki technique).
The FiLaC® laser technique for pilonidal sinus / cyst is quite effective in most simple uncomplicated cases.
However, in cases of recurrence or complicated pilonidal sinus with abscessation, multiple fistulas or large ones, the results are not so good.
In these cases, the open method is usually used, but it has the disadvantage of a long healing time that can reach or exceed three months and needs daily changes.
One of the most effective methods for difficult pilonidal sinus / cyst cases is the use of a flap in combination with plastic surgery.
The most popular is the Karydakis method from the Greek surgeon who discovered it.
There are also some other plastic flap techniques, but they do not have such a good aesthetic result.
In the following photos, we see a patient with recurrence after two pilonidal sinus / cyst operations with the closed method who underwent flap plastic surgery with the Karydaki method.
